The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Executive Yuan, held the 119th meeting of its Consultative Committee presided over by Chairperson Jaushieh Joseph Wu. Discussion was made around the central theme of the “trend of the Mainland’s present-stage tactics on Taiwan.”

In today’s conference, the majority of Committee members believed that as a strategy, the Mainland’s work on Taiwan after the May 20 have consisted of propaganda which painstakingly project the gravity of the cross-Strait situation, to shape and reinforce anti-independence conditions. Therefore, the political and military confrontation related to the overall cross-Strait relations will sustain. However, the Mainland will continue and reinforce the promotion of exchanges and civilian interaction. In the economic aspect, it will continue to attract Taiwanese businessmen and promote bilateral trade and economic exchanges, to enhance interactive cross-Strait economic and trade relations, which could be used as a means to pull Taiwan in its direction in the political aspect.

Members of the MAC’s Consultative Committee also pointed out that in foreign relations, the Mainland will still continue its oppressive actions, and will obstruct Taiwan’s participation in international activities by unyielding means. The action taken by the Mainland recently toward Taiwan’s Olympic advertisement is evidence. At the same time, the Mainland’s People’s Liberation Army has recently reinforced its strategy of “Three Types of Warfare Against Taiwan”—psychological, media and legal, especially in its “legal warfare,” where the space of cross-Strait relations is being constricted and Taiwan’s participation in international activities is restricted by enacting the so-called “Reunification Law” and through the use of the international law. In the future, they will continue these actions to achieve their goal of imposing pressure on Taiwan and the international society.

In today’s meeting, the MAC’s Consultative Committee also recommended that the government agencies concerned should reinforce their in-depth study on the Mainland’s strategy of “Three Types of Warfare Against Taiwan,” and continue to expose to the international community the real motivation behind it. On the other hand, the Government must continue to transmit its goodwill and promote its policy of peace and stability in the development of cross-Strait relations.
