He said that 2019 is the 40th anniversary of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots in Taiwan." January 1, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi issued a New Year message entitled "Seizing Opportunities of the Age, Working Together for National Rejuvenation" in the first edition of Relations Across Taiwan Straits magazine, 2019. He said that 2019 is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the new China, as well as the 40th anniversary of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan" by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and policy of peaceful unification. January 2, 2019
During the 40th anniversary commemoration of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots in Taiwan," mainland Chinese leader Xi Jinping presented a five-point proposal to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations to achieve reunification of the motherland. Compatriots should work together to promote national rejuvenation and achieve the goal of peaceful reunification; to explore a "two systems" solution for Taiwan and enrich the practice of peaceful unification; to adhere to the "one China" principle and maintain the prospect of peaceful unification; to deepen the development of cross-Strait integration and consolidate the foundation of peaceful unification; and to achieve a shared mindset among compatriots on both sides and build support for peaceful unification. Xi also stressed that there is only "one China" in the world and that adherence to the "one China" principle is a recognized norm of international relations and a general consensus in the international community. China's affairs must be decided by Chinese. The issue of Taiwan is China's internal affair. It is related to the core interest of China and the feelings of the Chinese people. Any foreign interference will not be accpeted.

Mainland China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying spoke at a regular press conference on the US agreement to allow certain military enterprises to export technology to facilitate Taiwan's Indigenous Defense Submarine (IDS) program and the motion has been welcomed by US, European, Japanese, and Indian companies willing to participate in the program. She stated that China firmly opposes arms sales to Taiwan by any country and military links established in any form between any country and Taiwan. This position is consistent and concise. The Mainland urges the US and other relevant countries to keep in mind the sensitivity and graveness of this issue, earnestly abide by the one-China principle, not to permit relevant enterprises to participate in Taiwan's IDS program in any form, terminate all military links with Taiwan, and prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues so as to avoid severely undermining their bilateral relations with China, and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

January 16, 2019
During a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a statement by a White House National Security Council spokesperson that the US "refuses to accept any plan or threat to intimidate the people of Taiwan with military force" and calls on the Mainland to "stop oppressing Taiwan" and resume dialogue with the Taiwan authorities. The spokesperson said that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and that foreign interference will not be allowed. The Mainland will never tolerate "Taiwan independence" and reserves the option to take all necessary actions. This does not involve the issue of "intimidating the people of Taiwan with military force" and "oppressing Taiwan." US personnel have turned a blind eye to words and actions by the DPP authorities that damage the political foundation of cross-Strait relations and heighten cross-Strait hostility, and the US continually send out the wrong message. This will only further undermine cross-Strait peace and stability.

January 17, 2019
During an interview with the People's Daily on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US, mainland State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the Taiwan issue has always been the most core and sensitive matter in Sino-US relations. The "one China" principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations. This issue must be properly handled to ensure the smooth development of Sino-US relations. The US should adhere to the "one China" principle, abide by the three China-US joint communiques, earnestly oppose "Taiwan independence" forces and their separatist activities, and carefully handle Taiwan-related issues.

January 22, 2019
Member of the Politburo Standing Committee and Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Yang stated at the 2019 Working Conference on Taiwan Affairs that the situation in the Taiwan Strait is becoming more complicated and grave in 2019. The Mainland must deepen the development of cross-Strait integration, continue to expand cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, and fully implement policy measures beneficial to Taiwan compatriots. It must also continue to broaden channels for cross-Strait youth exchanges, provide more opportunities and create better conditions for Taiwanese youth to study, work, start businesses, and engage in exchanges in the Mainland. The task force designed towards Taiwan affairs need to be strengthened from the aspects of political, team and work style, establish clean government, and continuously enhance the ability and level of Taiwan-related work.

During a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council PRC spokesman Ma Xiaoguang remarked on MAC Minister Chen Ming-tong's statement at a Lunar New Year press conference that Taiwan would implement a "security network for democracy" and establish a comprehensive security defense mechanism and proposal during a meeting with Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu that limits be placed on cross-Strait exchanges. He said that the DPP authorities have constantly escalated cross-Strait confrontation and restricted cross-Strait exchanges. No matter what "lines of defense" are established or "networks" woven, they cannot stop the steady march of compatriots on both sides. They will ultimately fall into their own trap and be spurned by the great number of Taiwan compatriots. Regarding the US House of Representatives' passage of a bill requiring the US Secretary of State to study strategies to help Taiwan to regain observer status in the World Health Organization (WHO), the spokesperson said that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and no external interference will be allowed. The matter of the Taiwan area's participation in the activities of the WHO and other international organizations must be handled in accordance with the "one China" principle. This principle must be acknowledged to enable arrangements for Taiwan's participation in WHO activities through cross-Strait negotiations. Reliance on foreign powers is a dead end.

In regard to a statement by MAC Minister Chen Ming-tong that any person from Taiwan who participates in democratic consultations in the Mainland will be in violation of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council PRC spokesperson An Fengshan said that democratic consultations are the right way to promote peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and accord with cross-Strait public opinion and the trend of the times. The DPP authorities frequently wield a big stick to suppress political parties and people supporting unification. At a regular press conference to statements by the MAC that most Taiwan Affairs Office officials come to Taiwan for political purposes and that the employment of Taiwanese as assistants to community directors in Haicang District, Xiamen City is "illegal in principle." Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) of State Council PRC spokesperson An Fengshan said that TAO personnel throughout the Mainland visit Taiwan to promote exchanges and cooperation between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and enhance the rights, interests, and welfare of Taiwanese compatriots. The obstacles set by the Taiwan authorities are detrimental to good deeds for Taiwanese compatriots. Community neighborhood committees and villagers' committees are grassroots autonomous organizations in the Mainland. Taiwanese assistants to community directors participate in community work and enjoy the same benefits and social protections as other employees. Charges by relevant parties in Taiwan that such employment is "illegal" are pointless and entirely untenable. Furthermore, in regard to the passage of two US warships passing through the Taiwan Strait on February 25, An Fengshan said that the Taiwan issue relates to China's core interests and that the Mainland firmly opposes any external interference.

March 12, 2019
Regarding Tsai Ing-wen's visit to three of Taiwan's diplomatic allies in the Pacific, Mainland Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang stressed that the “one-China principle” was a consensus shared by the international community. March 28, 2019
Regarding the likely US sale of F-16V fighter jets to Taiwan, recent passage of two US ships through the Taiwan Strait and the statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that more actions could be taken in the future to implement the Taiwan Travel Act, Mainland Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Wu Qian stated, at a regular press conference, that Taiwan question was China's internal affair. It related to the  core interest of China and the feelings of the Chinese people, in which foreign interference was intolerable. The "one- China principle” was widely-acknowledged as the basic norm in international relations. It was also the political foundation of Sino-US relations. Any remark and action that undermined the "one-China principle" would shake the foundation of Sino-US relations nor was it in the fundamental interests of China and the United States, not to mention being very dangerous.

April 2, 2019
Mainland Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Geng Shuang issued a statement at a regular press conference on US claims that Chinese military fighter jets across the median line of the Taiwan Strait were military provocations. He said that China's position on the Taiwan issue has been consistent and clear-cut. The so-called Taiwan Relations Act unilaterally rolled out by the US runs counter to the basic norms governing international relations and the three China-US joint communiques. China has been firmly against it from the start. China urges relevant individuals in the US to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiques, and make efforts to advance bilateral relations and cross-Strait peace and stability.

During a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang of China responded to Tsai Ing-wen's statements on social media platforms and other media channels that she will "insist on sovereignty" and claims that "the whole world supports Taiwan's resistance to mainland pressure." He said that there is only "one China" in the world and Taiwan is part of China. The "one China" principle is a basic guideline for international relations followed by the international community. It is universally recognized and a common consensus. Ma indicated that DPP authorities and "Taiwan independence" forces have argued profusely on the "two states theory." “Externally, they have relied on foreign forces. Internally, they have threatened the people of Taiwan. Facing pressure by going against the tide, they are doomed to be isolated,” Ma commented. Regarding the statement by a World Health Organization spokesperson that, in the absence of a cross-Strait understanding, Taiwan would not be invited to this year's World Health Assembly, Ma Xiaoguang said that Taiwan can only participate in activities hosted by international organizations in adherence to the "one China" principle and with due arrangements through cross-Strait negotiations. The DPP authorities' refusal to recognize the "1992 Consensus" undermines the political foundation of cross-Strait relations. Consequently, the premise and foundation for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly no longer exists and the related arrangements are consequently unsustainable.

He said that the Mainland supports "peaceful reunification and one country, two systems." Ma accuses the DPP authorities for consistently obstructing and limiting exchanges and contact between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, suppressing calls for unification across the Taiwan Strait, and escalating cross-Strait opposition. Ma argues that the DPP reveals their true purpose of seeking gains for their own party and pursuing "Taiwan independence."

April 24, 2019
Regarding the US Department of State's April 15 approval of a US$500 million arms sale to Taiwan, Mainland China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian stated that China resolutely opposes any country selling arms to or having military interactions with Taiwan. The action by the US seriously violates the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques. It interferes with China's internal affairs, undermining its sovereignty and security interests. It also poisons the Sino-US military relationship and seriously damages cross-Strait relations as well as peace and security in the region. The Taiwan issue is related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its core interests. It is also the most sensitive issue in Sino-US relations. Taiwan's attempts to rely on foreign forces and America's use of Taiwan to contain China, according to Wu, are doomed to fail. China demands that the US immediately cancel related arms sales to Taiwan and stop all military interaction with Taiwan.

The central government firmly supports HKSAR 's punishment according to law of the main organizers and planners of the illegal "Occupy Central" movement. Ma reprimanded DPP authorities' disregard for the rule of law in Hong Kong and irresponsible remarks on Hong Kong affairs which reveal DPP’s habitual confusion of right and wrong and distortion of the truth.

During a regular press conference, Mainland Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Geng Shuang stated that China has a consistent and clear stance toward Taiwan’s regional participation in international organizations, including the World Health Organization. It must be arranged based on the one-China principle. This is also an important principle affirmed in United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 2758 and World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution 25.1. Since taking power in 2016, the Democratic Progressive Party has been putting political calculations above the welfare of Taiwanese people and entrenching itself in the secessionist position of "Taiwan independence," thus undermining the political foundation for the regional participation in the WHA. To uphold the one-China principle and the solemnity and authority of UNGA and WHA resolutions, China has decided  to veto Taiwan's participation in the WHA this year.

May 6, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stated that the issue of Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) must be handled based on "one China principle." The Mainland has always highly valued the health and well being of Taiwan compatriots. It has taken many measures to promote cross-Strait cooperation and exchanges on healthcare and proper arrangements for Taiwan to participate in global health affairs, under the one China principle. The DPP authorities have manufactured and escalated cross-Strait opposition and undermined the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations through political plots that place the party's own interests above the well-being of Taiwan compatriots. They are bound to be opposed by compatriots on both sides.

China firmly opposes and has lodged solemn representations to the US side. This points the way for the development of cross-Strait relations in the new era. "Time" and "conditions" are on the Mainland's side. Engaging in "Taiwan Independence" and pawning treasures to foreign forces cannot be relied on. The progress in cross-Strait relations is a trend that no person or power can stop. Yang urged the cross-Strait media to uphold overall nationalism, fulfill their social responsibilities, continue to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, advance the process toward the peaceful unification of China, and strive to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

During a meeting with delegates to the fifth members' congress of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland (ATIEM), Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee Wang Yang urged the ATIEM to deeply study and understand the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's letter on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the ATIEM, which is to observe the prevailing trends, and understand what is right. The two sides should adhere to the "1992 Consensus" and "one China principle," resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence," build confidence in the Mainland's development and cross-Strait economic cooperation, and contribute their forces to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He welcomed the greater Taiwanese business community to actively participate in cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in various fields and serve as participants, promoters, and frontrunners in cross-Strait economic and social integration and development. Guided by the conviction that the two sides are both part of the same family, the Mainland take the initiative to share development opportunities in the Mainland with Taiwan compatriots, implement and improve the "31 measures" and other policies favorable to Taiwan, and further facilitate investment and business creation by Taiwanese businesspeople in the Mainland.

During a regular press conference, Mainland Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang stated that the World Health Assembly (WHA) has again refused to include the so-called proposal of "inviting Taiwan to attend the WHA as an observer" in the conference's provisional agenda. This decision, consistent with provisions of relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the WHA, is a further testament that the one-China principle is an overriding trend with wide support that cannot be challenged. The participation of China's Taiwan region in the activities of international organizations must and can only be handled in accordance with the one-China principle.

May 28, 2019
During a regular press conference, mainland Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang responded to a question on warming Taiwan-US relations. He stated that the one-China principle is the political foundation for the development of China-US relations in the past four decades. Only when the US strictly abides by this principle and the three joint communiques can there be sound development in bilateral relations. Regarding the recent wrong moves by the US relating to Taiwan, China has stated its solemn position to the US side and urged it to honor its commitment to avoid disrupting relations and cooperation between the two sides in key areas.

May 28, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson An Fengshan stated that any remarks and actions that undermine the one-China principle are tantamount to shaking the foundation of China-US relations and are against the fundamental interests of the two countries. The Mainland also strongly opposes such dangerous behavior. He again warned Taiwan's DPP administration that "Taiwan independence" goes against the historical tide and is a road to nowhere. Relying on foreigners to build oneself up is doomed to fail and one will certainly pay a price for such deeds.

May 29, 2019
During a meeting with a delegation from Taiwan led by New Party Chairman Yok Mu-ming, Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, expressed that on the basis of adhering the 1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence, the Mainland is willing to engage in talks and consultation with political parties, organizations and individuals in Taiwan to resolve differences and build consensus on "peaceful reunification and one country, two systems." The Mainland will actively promote implementation of the consensus reached during consultations, deepen cross-Strait exchanges and integrated development, promote more favorable policies benefiting Taiwan, and encourage young people from Taiwan to study, work and start businesses on the Mainland. This will enable more Taiwan compatriots to see and participate in the Mainland’s development and change, and enchance their sense of identity and participation in national rejuvenation.

May 29, 2019
During a regular press conference, An Fengshan, the spokeperson with Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that the DPP authorities' refusal to acknowledge the "1992 Consensus" unilaterally damages the common political ground for the development of cross-Strait relations. Supporting "Taiwan independence," obstructing and limiting cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, relying on foreign forces, repeatedly made divisive remarks steeped in the "two states theory" have aggravated cross-Strait relations and seriously harmed the interests and welfare of Taiwan compatriots. An reiterated that there is only "one China" in the world. China's sovereignty and territory have never been divided and will never be divided. The fact that both the Mainland and Taiwan belong to "one China" has never changed and can never be changed. Institutional differences do not constitute a barrier to unification, nor a pretext for separation. Any words or actions attempting to change the fact that the Mainland and Taiwan belong to "one China" constitute a serious provocation to the overall interests of the Chinese nation and the shared interests of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. The spokesperson also stressed that "peaceful unification and one country, two systems" is the best way to resolve the Taiwan issue and achieve national unification. As "One country, two systems" is to accommodate the present state in Taiwan and to assure the interests and welfare of Taiwan compatriots, the form in which it is realized will fully consider the actual situation in Taiwan.

May 30, 2019
During a regular press conference, Wu Qian, a spokeperson with the mainland China's Ministry of National Defense, responded to the US’s recent actions involving Taiwan-related issues, stating that Taiwan is part of China. The Taiwan question is China's internal affairs, which ties in with China's core interests and the feelings of the Chinese people. Foreign interference will not be allowed. Recently, the US has frequently played the "Taiwan card" in a vain attempt to "use Taiwan to control China." This is nothing but wishful thinking. The "one China principle" is universally recognized by the international community, and is an important political foundation for diplomatic and development relations between China and the US. The US actions have severly damaged the development of the relationships between the two countries and two militaries, undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. "Taiwan independence" is the biggest extistent threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The Mainland adheres to the principles of "peaceful unification" and "one country, two systems," promotes the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and advances the process toward the peaceful reunification of China. However, the Mainland resolutely opposes all secessionist plots and acts. Any attempt to achieve "independence" by force is doomed to fail. Engaging in "Taiwan Independence" and pawning one's treasures to foreign forces are not to be relied on, and for those who do will reap what they sow. The Chinese People's Liberation Army has firm determination, full confidence, and sufficient ability to thwart all separatist activities and safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

June 2, 2019
During a speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security summit in Singapore, Mainland Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe stated that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. No country in the world will tolerate national division. China must be unified and will be unified. If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese military has no choice but to fight at all costs for national unity. The Mainland warns the DPP authorities and interfering external powers: First, any attempt to split China will not succeed. Second, intervention in the Taiwan question is doomed to failure. Third, any underestimation of the People's Liberation Army's resolve and will is extremely dangerous. We will strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with utmost sincerity and greatest efforts. However, we make no promise to renounce the use of force. Safeguarding national unity is the sacred duty of the PLA.

June 3, 2019
Mainland Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Geng Shuang commented at a regular press conference on the recent warming of relations between Taiwan and the US. He said that China firmly opposes any official exchange between the US and Taiwan and any attempt to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan." This has been China's clear and consistent position. China urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques and act prudently to prevent damages to bilateral relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China develops friendly and cooperative relations with all countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the one-China principle. The one-China principle has become a norm of international relations.

June 4, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson An Fengshan stated in regards to President Tsai's speech on the Tiananmen Incident that, under the strong leadership of the CCP, the Chinese people have continued to advance along the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and adhere to reform and opening. This has produced glorious achievements that are universally recognized and apparent to all. Some DPP politicians have, for the selfish interests of one party, slandered and attacked the Mainland, incited cross-Strait opposition, created cross-Strait hostility, undermined cross-Strait relations, and relied on foreign forces. This undermines the interests of Taiwan compatriots and the Chinese people. The sinister nature of the party's political intentions is well-known. Taiwan's future lies in the unification of the motherland. The well-being of Taiwan compatriots is linked to national revival. No person or power can stop the peaceful reunification of the two sides and the historical trend of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

June 6, 2019
During a regular press conference, Mainland Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Geng Shuang stated that China firmly, consistently, and unequivocally opposes US arms sales to Taiwan. It urges the US to fully realize the high degree of sensitivity and severe impact of this issue and honor its commitment to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, stop selling arms to or having military ties with Taiwan, handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly, and avoid serious damage to bilateral relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

June 12, 2019
During a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) spokesperson An Fengshan commented on allegations that the TAO has manipulated the Taiwan media and steered Taiwan's elections. He stressed that adhering to the "1992 Consensus" and opposing "Taiwan independence" form the common political basis for starting exchanges with all parties, groups, and individuals in Taiwan. The Mainland has never intervened in elections in the Taiwan area. It opposes all words and actions that slander or discredit the Mainland and undermine cross-Strait relations. The spokesperson further stated that the two sides belong to one China and that compatriots on both sides of the Strait belong to one family. Cross-Strait affairs are the family affairs of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. The nature of cross-Strait relations must be correctly understood and the concept of "one family across the Strait" upheld for cross-Strait relations to improve development and enhance and protect the well-being of Taiwan compatriots. Regarding the listing of Taiwan as a country by the US Department of Defense, the spokesperson reiterated that there is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. It has never been a country. This fact has never changed and cannot be changed. China has been very clear about its position of firmly opposing any form of official exchanges and military ties between the US and Taiwan.

June 16, 2019
Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Yang stated in a speech at the opening ceremony of the 11th Straits Forum that the Mainland has been actively developing dialogue and consultation between political parties, groups, and people on both sides of the Strait since General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech. The DPP authorities and forces behind "rapid independence" deliberately create hostility and opposition and obstruct cross-Strait civil exchanges. Moreover, external forces frequently play the "Taiwan Card." However, Taiwanese compatriots continue to enthusiastically come to the Mainland to develop. The forum is the first large-scale reunion of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait since General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech. It attracted a record number of participants. It is a major event with special significance in expanding cross-Strait private exchanges and deepening integrated development under the new circumstances. First, no force can stop the trend of cross-Strait economic exchange and integration. Second, no power can shake the determination and confidence of compatriots on both sides of the Strait to maintain national unification. Third, no force can sever the cultural bonds linking the people on both sides of the Strait. Fourth, no power can block the will of the people of all walks of life on both sides to achieve national rejuvenation.

June 16, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi visited Xiamen to inspect the operation of the Mini Three Links routes between Xiamen and Kinmen. He stated that Kinmen has unique geographical advantages over other counties and cities in the Taiwan area due to its proximity to Xiamen and convenient transportation. Through smoother economic and trade cooperation, infrastructure linkages, energy resource interoperability, and common industry standards, Kinmen can be the first to achieve water, electricity, gas, and bridge links with the coastal areas of Fujian. Kinmen could rely entirely on Fujian and on Xiamen in particular. It could amply benefit from the broad development space and opportunity in the Mainland to rapidly develop and reach new heights of economic development aligned with the trends of the times. This is not only beneficial to Kinmen, but also good for development in the Taiwan area overall. We are pragmatically promoting all of the preliminary work that can be done. When the conditions are ripe, Kinmen can rely on the Mainland. The two sides can also link their infrastructure and energy resources. This will greatly improve the development environment in Kinmen, increase Kinmen's innate power for development, and broaden the prospects for Kinmen's development. The Mainland hopes that compatriots on both sides will work together and remove obstacles so that appropriate linkages can be promptly realized.

June 19, 2019

June 26, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson An Fengshan commented on the "Reject Red Media" protest in Taiwan during a regular press conference. He said that the DPP authorities and "Taiwan independence" forces are frightened by the growing closeness and improvement in cross-Strait relations. They have wantonly discredited and smeared as "Red" the media able to objectively report on the situation in the Mainland and support the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. They have also worked brazenly and underhandedly to pressure, persecute, and escalate the cross-Strait confrontation. Regarding amendments to the National Security Act, the spokesperson stressed that the DPP authorities have plotted to create "one country on each side." They have deliberately created cross-Strait hostility and increased cross-Strait confrontation. Such actions are bound to be spurned by compatriots on both sides. The spokesperson also indicated that "peaceful unification and one country, two systems" fully considers the realities in Taiwan and is the best way to achieve national unification. The specific form of implementing the "one country, two systems" framework in Taiwan will fully consider the actual situation in Taiwan and incorporate the views and proposals of various sectors on both sides. It will amply full care for the interests and feelings of Taiwan compatriots. Regarding Tsai Ing-wen's overseas visit, the spokesperson said that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. The Mainland firmly opposes any actions in the international arena designed to create "two Chinas," "one China, one Taiwan" and "Taiwan independence." Any attempts or actions to rely on foreign forces and undermine cross-Strait relations will meet with due consequences.

June 27, 2019
During a regular press conference, Mainland Ministry of National Defense Spokesman Ren Guoqiang commented on US concerns that Beijing's continued pressuring and militarily coercion of Taiwan is undermining stability in Taiwan and the region. He said that some people in the US hold fast to a Cold War mentality, speculate on competition between China and the US, and provoke cross-Strait confrontation. The Mainland firmly opposes this. China has always been a builder of world peace, contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. The Taiwan question relates to a core interest of China and the feelings of the Chinese people. Foreign interference will not be allowed. China will staunchly safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

June 28, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) Director Liu Jieyi visited the Xishan Unknown Heroes Memorial Square for the launch of an activity that month on the theme of revolutionary traditional education. He said that the motherland must be unified and will be unified. The new era is a time of major development and great achievements by the Chinese people. It is also a time of major development and great achievements in Taiwan-related work. The TAO has a proud tradition and red genes. Party members and cadres all draw power from an education rooted in the theme of "not forgetting one's original heart and keeping one's mission firmly in mind." They inherit and develop the spirit of martyrs of the revolution and the older generations in their loyalty to the party, adherence to the mission, fearlessness of sacrifice, and selfless dedication in Taiwan-related work. He called for reinforcing the "four consciousnesses," strengthening the "four confidences," accomplishing the "two maintains," and uniting more closely around the CCP Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core to solidly carry out Taiwan-related work in the new era, complete the grand endeavor of national unification at an early date, and struggle tirelessly to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

June 29, 2019
Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Yang met representatives of the people of Taiwan and delegation of ethnic minorities. He said that national revival and unification are general trends and the direction of public sentiment. The time and conditions both affirm and support unification. Closer cross-Strait relations and benefits for compatriots on both sides of the Strait can only be achieved through dialogue, consultations, exchanges, and cooperation. Only then will the Chinese nation be strongly united. The Mainland is willing to engage in dialogue and consultations regarding cross-Strait relations and the future of the Chinese nation with all parties, groups and individuals in Taiwan who adhere to the 1992 Consensus and oppose "Taiwan independence." The Mainland is ready to listen to the voice of Taiwan compatriots and fully implement various favorable policies benefiting Taiwan, especially to help improve the living standards of ethnic minorities and those at the grassroots level in Taiwan.

China has also expressed concerns to the US and lodged stern representations.

July 2, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to questions regarding the cancellation of Joyce Huang's television program. He stated that Ms. Joyce Huang, a political commentator/TV host, has repeatedly come under irrational attacks by Taiwan independence forces lately. The cancellation of her TV program, the "Late-Night Punch", due to pressure from the DPP authorities, has caused great indignation among compatriots on both sides. TAO strongly condemned the actions of the DPP authorities.

July 4, 2019

He said that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one family; strengthening economic exchange and integrated development across the strait not only are in line with the fundamental interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, but will also enhance the well-being of Taiwan compatriots in the future. Since June, former KMT Chairman Hung Hsiu-chu, New Party Chairman Yok Mu-ming, Taiwan legislator Kao Chin Su-mei, and other people of insight have led delegations to the Mainland to start dialogue and consultations. Consensus in a number of important areas was reached, including jointly opposing Taiwan independence separatism, jointly advancing the process toward peaceful [re]unification of China, achieving national rejuvenation, deepening the development of cross-strait integration, promoting cross-strait cultural interchange as well as exchanges among the youth and the grassroots, strengthening national unity, and etc. Liu said this development fully illustrates that the pursuit of a just cause and people's shared aspirations are unstoppable.

July 4, 2019
In a speech at the Shanghai-Taipei City Forum, Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong stated that Shanghai has always upheld the concept of "two sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family." Shanghai has progressively provided Taiwan compatriots equal treatments, as enjoyed by Shanghai residents, when it comes to studying, starting businesses, working, and living.  By doing so, this would help to further promote economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Taiwan.

July 5, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi stated during a meeting with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je in Shanghai that compatriots on both sides are bound together by a community of fate. The two sides should be guided by the conviction that they are of one family, actively promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and continue to deepen the development of cross-strait integration. General Secretary Xi Jinping in his important speech on the 40th anniversary commemoration of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots" had specified the way forward for cross-strait relations, which called compatriots on both sides to unite, jointly safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and together create a bright future for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

July 9, 2019
Mainland China Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang stated at a regular press conference that US arms sales to Taiwan gravely violated international law and basic norms in international relations, flagrantly interfered in China's domestic affairs, and harmed China's sovereignty and security interests. China deplores and resolutely opposes such action and has lodged stern representations with the US. China urges the US to honour its commitment to the one-China principle and the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, immediately withdraw the planned arms sales and sever military ties with Taiwan to prevent further damage to China-US bilateral relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

July 9, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang commented on US arms sales to Taiwan at a regular press conference. He said that the US move flagrantly interferes in China's domestic affairs and serious damages peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The Mainland firmly opposes it. The US should immediately withdraw all planned arms sales to Taiwan and stop sending seriously wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces. The Mainland China once again warned the DPP authorities that they will only bring trouble to themselves and reap what they sow by relying on foreign forces and elevating opposition. Regarding media reports claiming that Taiwan would be gathering data on agricultural product procurement by Mainland enterprises, Ma said that agricultural products sales pertain to the immediate interests of Taiwanese farmers, yet the DPP authorities, caring only for their immediate election interests, constantly use such an issue to create cross-strait hostility by various means and undermine cross-strait relations. DPP's current manipulation of agricultural product procurement directly violates the interests of Taiwan's farmers and fishermen and is universally condemned by the people of Taiwan.

July 11, 2019
Mainland China's Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that China is strongly dissatisfied and resolute opposed to the US arms sales to Taiwan and has already made stern representations to the US. US erroneous behavior seriously violates the "one China" principle and the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, especially the August 17 Communiqué, which stressed on interference with China's internal affairs and damaging of China's sovereignty and security interests. Such action seriously harms the development of Sino-US military relations, and gravely threatens peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. China urges the US keep its promises, abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, so as to immediately withdraw the planned arms sales to Taiwan, and stop all forms of US-Taiwan military communication to avoid causing further damage to the Sino-US military relationship.

July 12, 2019
Mainland China Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang commented on President Tsai Ing-wen's transit stop in the US at a regular press conference. He said that China firmly opposes official exchange between the US and Taiwan. This position is firm and clear. China has made stern representations to the US side. It urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US Joint Communiqués, not allow Tsai Ing-wen's transit, and stop official exchanges with Taiwan. It must also stop providing any platform for the separatists forces to advocate "Taiwan Independence." Geng further stated that Washington needs to deal with Taiwan-related issues properly and with caution to avoid damaging Sino-US relationship, as well as the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

July 12, 2019
When asked about President Tsai Ing-wen's transit stop in the US at a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said that Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP authorities try to use external forces to challenge the "one China" principle for the benefit of selective individuals and its own party, and seriously undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait for political gain. No power should underestimate mainland China's determination and ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The DPP authorities rely on foreign forces heedless of the safety and well-being of the people of Taiwan and are willing to serve as a pawn of external forces interfering in China's internal affairs. Such misjudgment of the situation by the DPP, not only deviates from popular sentiment, but will also inevitably be casted aside by the people in the end.

July 15, 2019
Mainland China Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang commented on President Tsai Ing-wen's remark in the US at a regular press conference. He said that the "one China" principle is the universal consensus of the international community. The Taiwan side attempts to mislead the international community, defraud sympathy, and look for excuses for "Taiwan independence" in the disguise of democracy. The world has seen through her true intention long ago. Relying on foreign forces and depending on other's whims will result in a loss of dignity and is destined to lead to a dead end.

July 31, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question regarding the Financial Times report on the TAO’s manipulation of the Taiwan media. He said that the report is entirely fabricated and has ulterior motives. The DPP authorities and Taiwan independence forces, seeking their own electoral gains, have comprehensively incited cross-strait confrontation and created cross-strait hostility. They have attacked at full force the Taiwan media with different positions, attempted to clamp down on criticism in Taiwan, and created a chilling effect through its "green terror." Using foreign media to concoct rumors is another of their clumsy political and election tricks. The people of Taiwan will not be fooled by this nakedly fake news.

July 31, 2019
Mainland China's Defense Ministry issued a white paper titled "China's National Defense in the New Era." The report indicated the security risks and challenges mainland China now faces cannot be overlooked. The fight against separatists has become more acute. The DPP authorities stubbornly stick to "Taiwan independence" and refuse to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle. They have gone further down the path of separatism by stepping up efforts to sever the connection with the Mainland in favor of gradual independence, pushing for de jure independence, intensifying hostility and confrontation, and borrowing the strength of foreign influence. The "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and their actions remain the gravest immediate threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the biggest barrier hindering the peaceful reunification of the country. The Mainland China makes no promise to renounce the use of force, and reserve the option of taking all necessary measures. This is by no means targeted at compatriots in Taiwan, but at the interference of external forces and the very small number of "Taiwan independence" separatists and their activities. The PLA will resolutely defeat anyone attempting to separate Taiwan from China and safeguard national unity at all costs.

July 31, 2019
Mainland China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a press release stating that in view of current cross-strait relations, individual tourists to Taiwan from 47 trial point cities in the Mainland are to be suspended from August 1, 2019.

August 1, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesperson Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question regarding the suspension from August 1 of a trial program allowing residents from 47 Mainland cities to travel independently to Taiwan for tourism. He said that mainland China launched the trial program allowing residents to travel individually to Taiwan in 2011. This was a positive development to expand cross-Strait personnel contact and exchanges in the context of the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. For many years, travel by Mainland residents to Taiwan has positively promoted Taiwan's tourism and related industries. The DPP authorities have constantly advocated "Taiwan independence" actions, incited hostility toward the Chinese Mainland, and provoked opposition across the Taiwan Strait. This has seriously damaged the basis and conditions for the trial run of individual travel to Taiwan.

August 1, 2019
Mainland China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying spoke at a regular press conference on the Fijian government's recent demand that the "trade mission"of the Taiwan authority to Fiji change its name into "Taipei Trade Office in Fiji." She said that the Fijian government has done a very right thing. China highly applauds the Fijian government for dealing with Taiwan-related issues according to the one-China principle. This again proves that following the one-China principle is an internationally popular trend.

August 7, 2019

August 14, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question on remarks by DPP Chairman Chuo Rung-tai on Hong Kong. He said that Chuo Rung-tai talks big in an attempt to stir up trouble in Hong Kong, smear "one country, two systems," and incite populism in Taiwan to win votes. This is doomed to fail. The DPP and its authorities have played a disgraceful role in the recent chaos in Hong Kong. He told the DPP and its authorities to withdraw their black hands to Hong Kong immediately, otherwise they will suffer the consequences.

August 16, 2019
Mainland China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying spoke at a regular press conference on the US sale of US$8 billion worth of F-16V fighter jets to Taiwan. She said that US arms sales to Taiwan severely violate the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqués especially the August 17 Communiqué. They constitute interference in China's internal affairs and undermine China's sovereignty and security interests. China firmly opposes this and has lodged stern representations with the US. It also urges the US to fully recognize the highly sensitive and harmful nature of the relevant issue, abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqués, refrain from selling F-16V fighter jets to Taiwan, and stop arms sales to and military contact with Taiwan. Otherwise, the Chinese side will surely make strong reactions and the US will have to bear all the consequences.

August 19, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question on assistance given by the DPP to certain Hong Kong residents to visit Taiwan in the name of "humanitarian aid." He warned the DPP authorities to stop undermining the rule of law in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stop intervening in Hong Kong's affairs, and not indulge criminals in any way. By turning a blind eye to the facts and confusing right and wrong, the DPP authorities have helped cover up the criminalities of a small number of violent radicals in Hong Kong and encouraged their acts of messing up Hong Kong. They have also announced protection for them, making Taiwan a "safe haven for criminals." Where does this put the safety and well-being of the Taiwanese people? No one is above the law.

August 19, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question on the US plan to sell F-16V fighter jets to Taiwan. He said that the US move grossly interfered in China's internal affairs, severely violated the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, and seriously undermined China-US relations, cross-Strait relations, and the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China firmly opposes the arms sales plan. The US should immediately cancel the planned arms sales to Taiwan and stop sending severely wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. No element should underestimate our resolve and ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP authorities are undermining the interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. They have no scruples over acting as US "pawns" and pay considerable "protection fees" to the US. Ultimately, they will become nothing more than "sacrificed pieces" and be forever nailed to history's pillar of disgrace.

Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao presented a speech at the Third Seminar on the History of the Chinese War of Resistance against Japan and Passing on the Spirit of Resistance. He stated that the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations currently faces obstacles and a complex and severe situation. The DPP authorities constantly promote various "Taiwan independence" activities aimed at "desinicization," obstruct and restrict cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, and deliberately suppress and threaten private organizations and individuals in Taiwan engaged in cross-Strait exchanges. They even beautify Japanese colonial rule, rely on foreign forces, and are willing accomplices of anti-China forces in the West to contain and curb China. Compatriots on both sides must be alert to and resolutely oppose retrograde "Taiwan independence" forces that hinder the development of cross-Strait relations and undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CCP Central Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Wang Chen met in Tianjin with Taiwan participants in the Eighth Legal Forum on Cross-Strait Peaceful Development. He said that the cross-Strait legal profession must adhere to the "one China" principle, on the common political basis of the "1992 Consensus" and opposing "Taiwan independence," continue to deepen cross-Strait legal exchanges, promote cross-Strait economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation, promote a shared mindset among compatriots on both sides, work together to promote national revival, and create a bright future for the Chinese nation.

August 22, 2019
In opening remarks presented at the Eighth Legal Forum on Cross-Strait Peaceful Development in Tianjin, Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi stated that, if cross-Strait relations are good, Taiwan will do well and the welfare of Taiwan compatriots will improve. The "one China" principle is the political foundation of cross-Strait relations. By adhering to this principle, cross-Strait relations can persevere and Taiwan compatriots can benefit. Deviating from this principle will cause tension and turmoil in cross-Strait relations and harm the vital interests of Taiwan compatriots. The DPP administration refuses to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle. A small minority of "Taiwan independence" separatists continue to make trouble, intensify collusion with external forces, create cross-Strait confrontation, and undermine exchange and cooperation between compatriots on both sides. They even resort to all kinds of intimidation, such as "legal amendments" to prevent Taiwan compatriots from conducting normal exchanges, obstructing the majority of Taiwanese youth from coming to the Mainland to work, develop, and realize their dreams. These acts seriously harm the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and severely undermine the vital interests of Taiwan compatriots and the common interests of compatriots on both sides of the Strait.

August 23, 2019
Mainland China's Ministry of National Defense spokesman Wu Qian stated in regards to the US arms sales to Taiwan that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Foreign interference will not be allowed. Any attempt to divide China will not succeed. Any underestimation of the People's Liberation Army's resolve and will is extremely dangerous. The Chinese side demanded that the US fully recognize the serious harm caused by its arms sales to Taiwan, see the situation clearly, and immediately cancel the planned arms sales to Taiwan suspend military ties with Taiwan to prevent seriously undermining Sino-US military relations as well as the peace and stability across the Strait. The Chinese army is firmly determined, fully confident and capable of crushing "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and safeguarding national unity and sovereignty as well as peace and stability across the Strait.

August 23, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stated in response to a question on the status of Kinmen's water supply that the Mainland has provided a secure and steady supply of nearly 3.9 million tons of water to Kinmen in the past year since cross-strait water service services were launched. This has resolved the water shortages that have long faced Kinmen residents. In the history of developing cross-Strait relations, water supply to Kinmen is a positive story of affinity and unity between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. It also vividly portrays how Taiwan compatriots benefit from the Mainland's pro-Taiwan policies. In the future, the Mainland will continue to promote cross-Strait economic and cultural exchanges, strive to promote "the full establishment of due linkages" across the Strait, continue to introduce more measures beneficial to Taiwan and the people embodying the principle of "one family across the Strait," and endeavor to expand the development space for Taiwan compatriots so more Taiwan compatriots can share development opportunities in the Mainland and achieve faster and better development.

August 28, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi stated in a speech at the 22nd Beijing-Taiwan Science and Technology Forum that Taiwan compatriots have suffered over the years from the "five shortages" of water, power, labor, land, and talent. All of these difficulties can be resolved through integrated cross-Strait development and the establishment of due linkages between the two sides. The DPP authorities have, through various means, obstructed cross-Strait exchanges, created cross-Strait confrontation, and fully exposed their true nature of ignoring the welfare and harming the interests of the vast number of Taiwan compatriots. The majority of Taiwan compatriots will resolutely oppose this.

September 1, 2019
In a speech at the opening ceremony of the 25th Shandong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Fair, Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi urged Taiwan's business community to seize development opportunities on the Mainland and, in the overall context of cross-strait relations, cooperate at higher levels and in broader fields to improve and accelerate their development. The Mainland and Taiwan are inseparable and share a common destiny. Only when cross-Strait relations are good will Taiwan compatriots be better off and will Taiwan's future be bright. It is in the fundamental interests of the Chinese ethnicity and common interests of people of both sides to uphold the "1992 Consensus," to oppose "Taiwan independence," and to work for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, advancing the process towards the peaceful reunification of China. This is also where the future and hope of the vast number of Taiwan compatriots laid.

September 3, 2019
In response to the question regarding Taiwan media’s report, which stated that the MAC recently reached a preliminary assessment indicating that participation of related Taiwanese groups in "cross-Strait youth financial services exchange" activities was illegal, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said that various parties in the Mainland are actively looking for ways, to create better conditions and to make it more convenient for young people from Taiwan to come to the Mainland for internships, employment, innovative entrepreneurship. This amounts to doing good and practical things for Taiwanese youth. The DPP authorities have fabricated various reasons to stymie and place obstacles everywhere and resorted even to threats and intimidation. This has created a "green horror" that seriously harms the vital interests of Taiwanese youth. This approach is unpopular and destined to fail.

September 8, 2019
Five cities in southwest of the Fujian province jointly announced at the 2019 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen plans to design a consolidated policy targeting Taiwanese talents, which includes strengthening national and provincial level cooperation on cross-Strait youth entrepreneurship and employment bases. The cities will also form a delegation to attract Taiwanese youth to Fujian for innovative entrepreneurship and turn Fujian into the best base for Taiwanese talents. On the same day, Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, Sanming, and Longyan signed the Southwest Fujian Talent Cooperation Framework Agreement, under which cross-Strait cooperation plays an important role. Under the framework agreement, the five cities in southwest Fujian will coordinate regional resources through the Straits Forum and other platforms, jointly launch meetings on cross-Strait talent and institutional cooperation, as well as organize Taiwan professional recruitment fairs and other activities to jointly promote talent exchange between Fujian and Taiwan. They also announced various city platforms for Taiwan talent development in high-end manufacturing, modern services, modern agriculture, and other industries.

September 11, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stated at a regular press conference that the DPP authorities have constantly promoted various activities for "Taiwan independence". The introduction of a new curriculum filled with contents on "desinicization" and "Taiwan independence" will not only poison Taiwan's younger generation, but also further undermine cross-Strait relations and aggravate cross-Strait confrontation. He further stated that 99 localities, including 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, have brought together specific opinions on implementation and will continue to work with relevant departments and localities to carry out the 31 measures toward Taiwan compatriots and provide more convenience and create better conditions for Taiwanese companies to develop in the Mainland.

Regarding Taiwan’s move to push forth the "Chinese Communist Party Agents Bill," Ma said that the DPP authorities and "Taiwan independence" forces, acting solely upon Party's or personal benefit only, have broadly incited cross-Strait confrontation, created cross-Strait hostility, and intimidated and punished Taiwanese people on fabricated charges for participating in cross-Strait exchanges. This has created a "green terror," a "chilling effect," and raised strong doubts and widespread opposition from the public. He warned the DPP authorities to make a halt before it is too late.

The Entry and Exit Visa Administrative Office of the Xiamen Public Security Bureau announced that exit and entry administration departments in Xiamen would resume processing applications for individual travel endorsement to Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu from September 20. September 17, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Pei Jinjia stated in a speech at the opening of the Zhejiang-Taiwan Cooperation Week that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family and joined by neighborly goodwill. Beijing believes Taiwan compatriots and companies can fully and closely integrate their strengths with the huge potential and high-quality development qualities of the Mainland economy and the dividends accumulated since the reform and opening era to improve their prospects in the Mainland. In addition, the development of cross-Strait relations has repeatedly shown that Taiwan does well when cross-Strait relations are good.

September 17, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang issued a statement on the decision of the government of Solomon Islands to break so-called "diplomatic ties" with the Taiwan authorities and establish diplomatic relations with China. He said that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is a basic fact and the universal consensus of the international community. The false claims by the DPP authorities of associating the Solomon Islands' decision with so-called "money diplomacy" or "political pressure" are sheer self-deceiving lies aimed at diverting attention and creating trouble in the international arena. DPP has overestimated its abilities for the "one China" principle has never been negotiable and never will.

September 18, 2019
In an opening address at the Guizhou-Taiwan Cooperation Conference on Economy and Trade, Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao stated that when cross-Strait relations are good, Taiwan compatriots do well and Taiwan has promising prospects. He urged Taiwan business people to uphold the "1992 Consensus," which embodies the one-China principle, resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence," join the Mainland in promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advancing the process toward the peaceful reunification of China, and together achieve the "Chinese Dream" of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

September 20, 2019
President Xi Jinping stated in a speech presented at the celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference that it is necessary to comprehensively and accurately implement the principles of "one country, two systems," Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong, "Macao people administering Macao," and a high degree of autonomy, It is also important to guide Hong Kong and Macao committee members to support the administration of the SAR Government and the Chief Executive to rule in accordance with the law and develop and strengthen the forces of loving the mother country, Hong Kong, and Macao. It is necessary to adhere to the one-China principle and the "1992 consensus," expand exchanges with relevant political parties, organizations and people from all walks of life on the Taiwan island, promote the deepening of integration and development between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and resolutely oppose any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities.

September 20, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang commented on the decision by the Kiribati government to sever so-called "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities and establish diplomatic ties with China. He said that, following the tide of history, the government and the people of Kiribati have made the correct decision to join the 178 countries that have established official diplomatic relations with China. This is highly appreciated. The groundless accusations made by Taiwan's DPP authorities toward the government of Kiribati contradict what it said to the country in the past and show great disrespect to Kiribati and its people. The DPP authorities will never succeed in their attempt to disrupt the trend of the one-China principle that is wildly recognized by the international community through slander and smears.

September 25, 2019
During a regular press conference, Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a question on Taiwan's inability to participate in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly. He stated that Taiwan is part of China. China's position is consistent and clear that Taiwan's participation in activities of international organizations, including the ICAO, must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. The Mainland has always paid attention to the needs of Taiwan compatriots in the civil aviation field. Taiwan has open channels for access to standards, suggestions and relative materials from the ICAO. In fact, Taiwanese airlines have been flying conveniently between many cities in the world. Facts prove that Taiwan's aviation safety and aviation exchanges in other areas are unrelated to whether the DPP authorities are allowed to participate in the ICAO.

September 26, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang responded to a reporter's question on the declassification of a so-called "memo" concerning US arms sales to Taiwan. He indicated that the development of cross-Strait relations is the key to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The US arms sales to Taiwan will only encourage the rampancy of separatist elements advocating "Taiwan independence" and further undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Peaceful development of cross-Strait relations is the common wish of compatriots on both sides. The Mainland is willing to strive for peaceful unification with the utmost efforts and sincerity. At the same time, our determination to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity stands firm. China will inevitably be unified. This historical trend cannot be stopped by anybody or any force.

September 26, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi stated at a symposium in Beijing organized by the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland that China will deeply and thoroughly carry out the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the 40th anniversary commemoration of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots" in implementing people-centered development thinking in Taiwan-related work, as well as in treating Taiwan compatriots equally and benefiting them in the same way that the Mainland people are served. The Mainland highly praises the important contributions Taiwan compatriots and enterprises have made to the economic and social progress on the Mainland. The Mainland will further implement its 31 measures toward Taiwan compatriots and enterprises and share the Mainland's development opportunities with them so they may achieve faster and better development.

September 27, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said that the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations' approval of the "TAIPEI Act" seriously violates the one-China principle and the three joint Communiqués between China and the US. Taiwan is a part of China and the Taiwan issue is China’s internal affair. He stressed that China strongly urges the US side to clearly understand the situation, immediately stop pushing forward relevant negative acts, and immediately stop meddling in the Taiwan issue to avoid further damage to the China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China must be unified and will be unified. This historical trend cannot be stopped by any person or force.

September 29, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang commented on the DPP's passage of a "Resolution for a Win-Win Society across Generations." He said that this so-called "resolution" fully exposes the DPP's stubborn adherence to the separatist stance of "Taiwan independence." Its true intentions are to undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, intensify cross-Strait confrontation, stifle the great number of Taiwan compatriots calling for improvement and development of cross-Strait relations, and maliciously manipulate cross-Strait issues for election and personal gains. "Taiwan independence" is a dead end and will only bring profound harm to the Taiwan compatriots. The Mainland is willing to create a broad space for peaceful reunification. However, it will never leave any space for various forms of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities.

September 30, 2019
At the reception in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, mainland China's leader Xi Jinping stated that China will continue to fully and faithfully implement the principles of "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong," "Macao people administering Macao" and a high degree of autonomy. It will act in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Laws. It will also uphold the one-China principle and the "1992 Consensus," promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait, and deepen cross-Strait economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation to the benefit of people on both sides. The complete reunification of the motherland is an inevitable trend. It is what the greater national interests entail and what all Chinese people aspire for. No one and no force can ever stop it.

October 1, 2019
Mainland Chinese President Xi Jinping stated, at a reception to celebrate the establishment of the PRC's 70th anniversary, that the continued, comprehensive, and accurate implementation of the policy of "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong governed by the Hong Kong people," "Macao governed by the people of Macao," and high degree of autonomy, all strictly accord with the Mainland’s Constitution and its Basic Laws. The Mainland will uphold the one-China principle and the "1992 Consensus," promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait, and deepen cross-Strait economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation to the benefit of people on both sides. Accomplishing total national reunification is an inevitable trend. It is the right track and the people’s desire. No person or power can stop it.

October 9, 2019
During a meeting with Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, mainland Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China and the Solomon Islands have formally established diplomatic relations on the basis of the one-China principle. This conforms to the trend of the times and benefits the peoples of the two countries. China stands ready to boost communication and cooperation with the Solomon Islands within multilateral frameworks, including the UN and the Pacific Islands Forum, to address climate change and other challenges and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

October 9, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao stated at the Sixth Guangdong-Taiwan Youth South China Travel Exchange that the two sides of the Strait share a common origin, language, and ethnicity. Young people on both sides of the Strait also shoulder the important mission of passing down and promoting Chinese culture. The development of cross-Strait relations is closely related to every Chinese person on both sides. We have a responsibility to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advance the process toward the peaceful reunification of China. We will thoroughly implement the important statements of General Secretary Xi Jinping on Taiwan-related work while adhering to the principle of one family across the Strait. We will continue to expand economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Strait, constantly deepen the development of cross-Strait integration, and progressively provide Taiwanese youth with treatment equal to their Mainland compatriots.

October 11, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stated that remarks made by President Tsai Ing-wen on cross-Strait relations in her October 10 speech are full of confrontational thinking and hostility and motivated by election interests. The speech tried to create a hostile atmosphere against the Mainland by smearing and attacking the "one country, two systems" policy and suppressing the mainstream public opinion of Taiwanese people who want to develop the economy, improve people's livelihood and ease tensions in cross-Strait relations. By creating cross-Strait confrontation and undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, the DPP again lays bare its "Taiwan independence" nature. The Mainland warns the DPP authorities that confrontation will lead nowhere and seeking 'Taiwan independence' is a dead-end. The progress of the cross-Strait situation towards peace and stability and the continued development of cross-Strait relations is the trend of our times. It cannot be stopped by anyone or any force. Those who harm the interests of the people and go against the will of the public and the spirit of the times will be swept away by the tide of history.

October 13, 2019
During a meeting with Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli in Kathmandu, PRC President Xi Jinping thanked Nepal for its firm adherence to the one-China policy and its staunch support for China on issues concerning China's core interests. Any external forces supporting the division of China will only be regarded as delusional by the people of China.

October 13, 2019
A symposium on the construction of cross-Strait bridges linking the Mainland with Kinmen and Matsu was jointly held in Fuzhou by the Fujian Cultural and Economic Exchange Center, Fujian Transportation Association, Fujian-Taiwan Exchange Association, and Fujian Association of Engineering Consultants. October 13, 2019
During the Cross-Strait Yandi Shennong Cultural and Economic Exchange activity, Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao stated that the DPP administration's refusal to recognize the 1992 Consensus embodying the one-China principle undermines the political basis for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and is a vain attempt to cut the cross-Strait cultural umbilical cord; it is also an act that Taiwan compatriots must vigilantly and resolutely oppose. In February last year, 31 Mainland ministries released "31 measures" rooted in the spirit of "equal treatment" to deepen cross-Strait economic and cultural exchange and cooperation. This is just the beginning, not the end. The Taiwan Affairs Office will continue, in conjunction with relevant departments, to enrich and improve policies granting "equal treatment" to Taiwanese compatriots and companies. It will also continue to deepen cross-Strait economic and social integration and development, and promote a shared mindset among compatriots on both sides.

October 16, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Ma Xiaoguang stated during a regular press conference that travel by Mainland residents to Taiwan during the Golden Week period starting on October 1 fell sharply year-on-year. The atmosphere for cross-Strait exchanges has worsened amidst the DPP authorities' incessant beating of the "Taiwan independence" drum and this has inevitably affected the Mainland people’s will to visit Taiwan. Taiwan can prosper only when cross-Strait relations are strong. Responding to a question regarding the symposium on the construction of cross-Strait bridges linking the Mainland with Kinmen and Matsu, the spokesperson stated that both sides should enhance linkages wherever possible, starting with the establishment of water, electricity, gas, and bridge connections from coastal Fujian to Kinmen and Matsu. The two bridges are important initiatives that will benefit Taiwan compatriots and satisfy daily life demands of the Kinmen and Matsu people. They will also support the promotion of cross-Strait economic and social integration and development. The spokesperson stated that the deliberate exploitation of a "sense of the nation’s impending doom" is a cup of poison intended to incite cross-Strait confrontation and hostility, and is aimed to people for election interests.

October 16, 2019
The Taiwan Affairs Office approved the establishment of Guangxi's first cross-Strait exchange base at the site of the Battle of Kunlun Pass in Nanning. October 17, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao presented a speech at the opening of the Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Young Entrepreneurs Exchange Meeting. He said that, at the 40th anniversary commemoration of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots," General Secretary Xi Jinping laid out five important policy positions to advance peaceful unification of the motherland, calling for deeper development of cross-Strait integration and realization of a foundation for peaceful unification. The Mainland will first share development opportunities with Taiwan compatriots and provide equal treatment to Taiwanese people and companies in the Mainland. The Mainland must actively institutionalize cross-Strait economic cooperation and create a common market for the two sides. Guangdong Province has introduced a series of policies to help Taiwanese enterprises transform and upgrade and also to support Taiwan youth employment and entrepreneurship. These policies strongly support young Taiwanese entrepreneurs investing and starting businesses in the Mainland. They will also help to accelerate the integrated economic and social development of Guangdong and Taiwan.

October 20, 2019
Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office Chen Yuanfeng stated at the Sixth World Internet Conference that, Chinese culture is the "root" and "soul" of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The two sides share the common task of finding ways to use internet technology to jointly carry forward and promote traditional Chinese culture. He made a four-point proposal calling for constant advancement of cultural and national identity among compatriots on both sides; the use of modern information technology to pool the ingenuity of compatriots on both sides to pioneer new ground; joint efforts by compatriots on both sides to increase the influence and competitiveness of Chinese culture in the world; and joint development of integrated cross-Strait internet industries to advance the welfare of compatriots on both sides of the Strait.

October 20, 2019
The Hong Kong government issued a press release on the Chan Tong-kai homicide case. It stated that allegations regarding Chan having been manipulated to surrender or that his decision was out of political maneuvering are totally groundless. There is no laws currently in place to allow Hong Kong to extradite Chan to Taiwan, or to pursue any criminal juridical assistance with Taiwan. As Chan has stated his willingness to surrender himself voluntarily to Taiwan, Taiwan authorities should handle the case in accordance with its protocol in handling similar self-surrender cases. The Hong Kong government hopes for Taiwan to take positive and pragmatic action in receiving  a wanted self-surrendered person, and will offer all necessary assistance within the legal limits of Hong Kong.

October 21, 2019
Mainland National Defense Minister Wei Fenghe stated in a speech at the opening ceremony of the Ninth Beijing Xiangshan Forum that China is committed to promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the peaceful reunification of the country. However, China will never allow Taiwan independence separatists to have their way, nor will it allow interference by any external forces. Certain countries’ intervention in another’s regional or internal affairs is the true cause behind wars and turbulence. “Big stick policy and long-arm jurisdiction” cannot solve problems, neither can sanctions and pressure. The Chinese people do not heed or fear such tactics. Advancing China's reunification is a just cause, while separatist activities are doomed to failure.

October 22, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Director Liu Jieyi stated, during poverty alleviation research work in Guanghe County of Gansu Province, that reducing poverty in specific areas of Guanghe County is an important political task delegated by the CPC Central Committee and State Council to the Taiwan Affairs Office. It is important to thoroughly understand specific needs of Guanghe County, promote implementation of assistance work, and encourage Taiwanese businesses to contribute more to local agricultural development and to increase farmers' income.

October 25, 2019
During a regular press conference, Mainland Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hua Chunying stated that US Vice President Mike Pence wantonly criticized China's domestic and foreign policies in his October 24 speech. These remarks, just like those of his speech last October, are full of political bias and lies, and reveal nothing but his arrogance and hypocrisy. China expresses strong indignation and firm opposition to them. The Chinese government resolutely safeguards national sovereignty, security and development interests. Issues relating to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang are all China's domestic affairs in which no external forces shall interfere. Any attempt at undermining China's national unity, ethnic solidarity, and social stability or pinning blame on China is bound to be condemned by history.

October 26, 2019
Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Zheng Jianbang stated at the Fourth Cross-Strait Youth Peaceful Development Forum that the two sides are part of an inseparable "community of fate." Closer cross-Strait relations are the key to the future of Taiwan and the vast number of Taiwan compatriots. The Mainland hopes that aspiring young people on both sides of the Strait will work for the well-being of their compatriots, embrace the mission of the revival of the Chinese nation, and strive to defend and uphold the "1992 Consensus" embodying the "one China" principle. There can be no compromise in the struggle against "Taiwan independence." The two sides must deepen integrated development between compatriots on both sides, promote due cross-Strait linkages, and advance integrated development; jointly carry on China's culture and excellent traditions, and promote a shared mindset among compatriots on both sides; and further strengthen cooperation and promote the in-depth and continuous development of cross-Strait youth exchanges.

October 28, 2019
A communiqué issued at the fourth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the CCP stressed the significant advantages of adhering to "one country, two systems," maintaining the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao, and promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland. Upholding and improving the institutional framework of "one country, two systems," promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland, and "one country, two systems" are important mechanisms for the party in leading the people to realizing the peaceful reunification of the motherland. The Mainland must firmly advance the peaceful reunification of the motherland, improve institutional arrangements and policy measures to promote cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, deepen the development of cross-Strait integration, guarantee the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, and unite Taiwan compatriots to oppose "Taiwan independence" and promote reunification.

October 30, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Ma Xiaoguang responded to questions on the termination of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) at a regular press conference. He stated that the signing of the ECFA follow-up service trade agreement failed to enter into force, negotiations on the goods and trade agreement were interrupted, and the ECFA was unable to benefit more Taiwan compatriots. It is clear at a glance who is working for the well-being of compatriots and industries on both sides of the Strait, and who is harming the interests of compatriots and industries on both sides of the Strait in order to seek political self-interest. He stated that the "CCP Agent” draft bill represents the resurgence of the White Terror. Its purpose is to incite cross-Strait confrontation and create hostility between the two sides. The spokesperson warned DPP authorities to rein in at the brink of the precipice. In response to a question concerning comments made by US Vice President Mike Pence on October 24, he said that the DPP authority is banking on foreign forces to build itself up and is willing to serve as a pawn for them. Taiwan affairs, which are purely China's internal affairs, brook no external interference. He urged the US to properly handle Taiwan affairs and not send wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" forces.

November 1, 2019
The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a briefing on key concerns regarding policy measures beneficial to Taiwan and the people. During the meeting, Taiwan Affairs Office Deputy Director Long Mingbiao noted that 102 places have issued specific opinions on implementation of the "31 Measures" since their launch in 2018. Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China (PBC) Chen Yulu indicated that, based on adhering to the "1992 Consensus," the mainland would actively conduct cross-Strait monetary cooperation and consultation and promote the steady development of offshore renmibi (RMB) business in Taiwan. Deputy Director of the Ministry of Public Security's Public Order Administration Huang Shuangquan said that more than 100,000 residence permits for Taiwan residents have been issued since implementation of the Measures on the Application and Issuance of Residence Permits for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Residents.

November 4, 2019
The Taiwan Affairs Office, Central Commercial Organization Department of the China National Development and Reform Commission, and 18 other Mainland agencies issued the Measures to Further Promote Economic and Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation across the Taiwan Strait and noted that these "26 measures" were formulated in the same spirit as the "31 measures." Thirteen of the new measures allow Taiwan-funded companies to participate equally in the investment and construction of China's major technical equipment, 5G, circular economy, civil aviation, theme parks, and new types of financial institutions. Taiwanese firms can now enjoy financing, trade remedies, export credit insurance, import and export facilitation, and standard formulation as local companies. They can also support the construction of demonstration sites for cross-Strait youth employment and entrepreneurship. The other 13 measures are directed at providing equal treatment to Taiwanese people, including further facilitation and support in the areas of consular protection, agricultural cooperation, transportation, communication charges, home purchase requirements, culture and sports, professional title review, and admissions and examinations.

November 4, 2019
Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stated at a regular press conference that the Mainland launched the 26 new measures beneficial to the people of Taiwan in response to demands by Taiwan compatriots to share the development opportunities in the Mainland under broader scope and in more areas. Since compatriots on both sides are part of one family, the Mainland will continue to work in the best interests of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. The DPP authorities cannot stop the "31 measures" or the "26 measures" as going against the interests of Taiwan compatriots will eventually be abandoned by the people.

November 4, 2019
Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Wang Yang stated at the Cross-Strait CEO Summit that the cross-Strait economy is part of the Chinese economy and has advantages in capital, market, technology, and talent. Integrated development was, is, and will be the only way to mutual benefit across the Taiwan Strait. The recently announced "26 measures" will provide equal treatment to Taiwanese compatriots and companies in 5G development, financial guarantees, communication charges, professional title review, and other areas. The "Taiwan independence" forces have deliberately whipped up cross-Strait confrontation in disregard of the mainstream demand of compatriots on both sides for peace, development, cooperation, security, and well-being. This is the biggest threat to peace, stability, and integrated development across the Taiwan Strait. Wang also expressed belief that the broad majority of Taiwan compatriots and companies would make the right choice for the future direction of cross-Strait relations.

November 4, 2019

However, the people of Taiwan will not be deceived and the DPP authorities will not succeed with the sinister intentions of political manipulations. The "26 measures" introduced by the Mainland are beneficial to the people of Taiwan and a concrete manifestation of the implementation of people-centered development in the Mainland's Taiwan-related work. The "31 measures" and other policy measures announced and implemented by the Mainland in recent years have achieved significant positive results. The concept involving Taiwanese companies under the “26 measures” is in consistent with the 12 measures of the "31 measures" announced last year. It aims to highlight the notion of "two sides, one family" and reflect the spirit of equal treatment while advance with the times, expanded benefits, and increased values.

In contrast, the DPP authorities have done everything in their power to stop Taiwanese compatriots and companies from coming to the Mainland for exchanges and to seek development. The DPP has utterly disregarded the well-being and interests of the people of Taiwan and caused extreme harm by forcing upon the so-called "legal amendments" to advance their political schemes. Spokesperson Zhu further implied that Tsai Ing-wen's "four understandings" entirely distorts the truth and muddies the water. The DPP authorities are the ones that have undermined cross-Strait relations by unilaterally denying the "1992 Consensus", clamped down on cross-Strait economic and trade cooperation, and intensified cross-Strait hostility. Regarding the signing of the US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA 2020) by President Trump, the spokesperson said that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and foreign interference will not be allowed. The Taiwan-related content in the NDAA 2020 not only gravely violates the "one China" principle and stipulations of the Three Joint Communiqués, but also seriously harms US- China relations and cross-Strait peace and stability.
