Reorganized MAC Officially Inaugurated, Turning a New Page in History

        The Organic Act of the Mainland Affairs Council was promulgated by the President on June 13, 2018, and officially took effect today (July 2, 2018), turning a new page in the history of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC). The MAC's new name plaque was jointly unveiled by Minister without Portfolio Luo Bing-cheng, the first MAC Minister Chen Ming-tong, MAC Deputy Ministers Chiu Chui-cheng, Chen Ming-chi, and Lee Li-jane, MAC Secretary-general Hua Shih-chieh, Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Chairperson Chang Hsiao-yueh, and Convener of the Legislative Yuan's Internal Administration Committee Hung Tsung-yi. Senior officials and colleagues of the MAC and the SEF also joined the simple unveiling ceremony to witness the MAC's passage across this new milestone. Minister Chen Ming-tong thanked the participants and the distinguished guests for their support of the MAC. He also asked colleagues to promptly return to work after the ceremony to continue working for the security and happiness of the people of Taiwan from all walks of life and for cross-Strait peace and stability.

        The Organic Act of the Mainland Affairs Council enacted on July 2, 2018, changes the name of the MAC, but retains the council's original responsibilities and functions. It also preserves the MAC's existing six business units and increases the number of supporting units to five with the addition of an Information Management Office. Under the new organizational and personnel structure, the MAC will continue to strengthen planning and coordination of cross-Strait affairs and work hard to promote cross-Strait peace, stability and prosperity.

        During the unveiling ceremony, the MAC also announced the launch of its official Instagram account ("mainland_affairs_council"). The new account aims to strengthen communication and interaction through online social platforms and actively present the new spirit of the reorganized MAC through lively and friendly images.
