MAC Press Release No. 024
The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) issued the following press release to announce the downgrade of travel alert level to "yellow" for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, effective from October 13, 2022, in coordination with the related adjustment made by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC). The MAC reminded Taiwanese citizens to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before travelling and practice other enhanced preventive measures abroad to protect their own health.
The CECC made its latest pandemic-related adjustment based on the following assessment. In general, the global COVID-19 situation remains stable. Despite the outlook of the pandemic persisting, its health risks are expected to be relatively mild. Meanwhile, the international community has gradually moved towards more relaxation of their pandemic prevention and control measures. More countries are reopening their borders, and most developed countries have downgraded their travel advisory. In light of these developments, the CECC announced on October 12, 2022, that it would lower the travel advisory for all countries to Level 2 (“Alert”), effective from October 13, 2022; the MAC then followed up with this adjustment and downgraded the travel alert level for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The MAC stated that the COVID-19 pandemic is still going on and posing community transmission risks in several mainland Chinese provinces and cities; therefore, people should be particularly mindful of their own safety while travelling. The MAC also reminded those currently residing or staying in mainland China to keep informed about the local pandemic developments and the mainland Chinese authorities’ pandemic control measures so as to make proper preparations in advance.
The MAC stressed that the CECC has been coordinating various pandemic prevention efforts in response to the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. The public should fully cooperate with the government’s overall pandemic prevention policies and specific preventive and control measures to minimize the negative impact of the pandemic.
