  • Date:2022-09-22

MAC Press Release No. 022

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) issued a press release today (September 22, 2022) in response to the border control adjustments effective from September 29, 2022, announced by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC). Pursuant to the adjustments and considering the needs for humanitarian travel, family visits, and the operation and management of Taiwan-based mainland Chinese companies, the MAC introduced corresponding adjustments to the entry applications of eligible residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. Eligible individuals specified as follows can start submitting applications from September 29, 2022, in accordance with related regulations.

(1)Residents of mainland China seeking to enter Taiwan for family visits or funeral affairs (including shipping cremated remains and ashes, visiting an inmate for humanitarian reasons, visiting a critically ill or injured family member, receiving payments pursuant to public laws, and processing inheritance)

(2)Local staff of mainland Chinese airlines and shipping companies; crew members, technical personnel, and other related personnel of mainland Chinese aircraft and ships

(3)Employees of mainland Chinese businesses with an investment permit from Taiwan. Applications should be submitted to the authority in charge of their relevant enterprises; permission will be given on a case-by-case basis.

(4)Residents of Hong Kong and Macao seeking to enter Taiwan for family visits, funeral affairs, or business activities.

The MAC indicated that, going forward, the government will conduct rolling reviews and make progressive changes to the entry restrictions of residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, based on the pandemic situation both at home and abroad and the latest developments of cross-Strait interaction. We will ensure the protection of our national security and overall interests.
