The long-term peace and stability and benign interactions of cross-Strait relations are important elements in safeguarding the national survival, security, and economic development of the Republic of China. The government will make the utmost effort to build consensus on its Mainland policy among the people of Taiwan; moreover, while upholding Taiwan's interests and the well being of the people, and with effective risk controls and complete supporting measures, the government will prudently promote and develop cross-Strait relations and continue to create conditions for the long-term peace and stability of cross-Strait relations as well as for a mutually beneficial win-win situation, so as to realize the ultimate objective of lasting peace in the Taiwan Strait.
