MAC Press Release No. 84

1. Taiwan has a rich and diverse cultural heritage. We respect the freedoms of speech, the press, and religion and stress the rule of law. This is the way of life of Taiwan's society and people, as well as an expression of cultural inclusiveness. Cross-Strait cultural exchanges should help to convey Taiwan's rich and diverse cultural soft power and the mutually respected values of democracy and freedom.

2. Cross-Strait cultural exchanges have grown quite close and a number of platforms for private-sector interaction have been established. We would like to see two-way cross-Strait cultural exchanges and welcome mainland Chinese youth and professionals in various fields to visit Taiwan so that the two sides can share experience in social development. The two sides should cherish and maintain the accumulated results of cross-Strait cultural exchanges over the years so that the people on both sides can communicate their ideas and thoughts to each other in an equal and dignified way.
