Press Release of the Offshore Control Division of the Executive Yuan's SARS Prevention, Control and Relief Committee

Since Hong Kong has already been removed from the WHO's list of "areas with recent local transmission of SARS," the Offshore Control Division after careful consideration announced "Adjusted Regulations Governing the Entry of Travelers from Hong Kong and Macao" (see attachments), which come into force on June 26. The main points are as follows:

1. Necessary quarantine and prevention measures at airports remain in place. Travelers entering Taiwan from Hong Kong or Macao are still required to fill out a Questionnaire for SARS Prevention to the best of their knowledge, and to present the questionnaire at immigration. They also still need to undergo a temperature check upon arrival. Based on the Questionnaires for SARS Prevention and supporting documentation, the Aviation Police Bureau and related government agencies will examine whether or not inbound travelers had been to the Mainland over the past ten days.

2. Local Health Stations will perform follow-up random checks to monitor whether or not visitors are performing regular temperature checks and recording their itinerary in Taiwan, as prescribed by the "Guide to Self-Care Procedure."
3. Issuance of landing visas ("14-days entry permits") for Hong Kong residents remains suspended. The Offshore Control Division will continue to monitor the situation and review quarantine needs before landing visa services may be resumed.

4. Travelers entering from Hong Kong are no longer required to undergo a 10-day home quarantine, but will have to follow a self-care health management. Visitors from Macao no longer need to possess a document stating that they did not leave Macao over the past ten days.

5. Current regulations remain unchanged for travelers entering Taiwan from the Mainland via Hong Kong or Macao (transit passengers). Restrictions for these travelers will only be lifted after all accompanying measures have been reviewed and adjusted.

The Offshore Control Division also stressed that passengers entering from Hong Kong or Macao on so-called "one plane all the way"-flights (quasi-direct flights from Mainland airports via Hong Kong/Macao without changing planes) should remember to prepare all required documents for examination on arrival.
