MAC Press Release No. 56

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) today (June 12, 2019) expressed solidarity with Hong Kong students in Taiwan whom voiced support for the protesters against amendments to Hong Kong's Fugitive Offenders Ordinance and rallied in Taipei and Kaohsiung. We understand the anxiety they feel over the erosion of human rights in their homeland, however, we hoped that the students would take care of their health and study hard so to help democracy and freedom endure in Hong Kong.

The MAC indicated that the million HongKongers took to the streets in opposition to amendments to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance best exemplify the denunciation of the inferior "one country, two systems." We once again solemnly appealed to the Hong Kong government to withdraw the proposed law, face the reality, and not continually harm Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. In addition, we also advised the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that it cannot win the people's hearts by constantly touting "one country, two systems." The blind suppression of human rights, undermining of democracy, and bullying of Taiwan only expose the abominable and deceptive nature of the CCP regime. The CCP should deeply reflect, listen to the people, and offer the hope of a free and democratic future for the younger generation.
