The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) issued the following statement to address the latest pandemic control measures announced by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) in light of the rising cases of COVID-19 infections in mainland China, the lack of transparency in the status of the pandemic there, and the strengthening of pandemic control by many countries through strict measures such as mandatory testing for all inbound passengers from mainland China, flight controls, etc. To better monitor the pandemic development in mainland China, the CECC announced on December 28 that passengers arriving in Taiwan from four Chinese airports on direct cross-Strait flights and those coming to Taiwan through the Lunar New Year Charter Ferry Program for Kinmen and Matsu will be required to undergo a saliva-based PCR test at the airport (or port) of entry, starting from January 1 to January 31, 2023 (incoming flight’s scheduled arrival time).
The MAC reminded those planning on returning to Taiwan from mainland China between January 1 and 31, 2023, to cooperate with the CECC's COVID-19 prevention measures and regulations. In addition, Taiwanese citizens residing or staying in mainland China should remain alert to the local pandemic situation and take precautions to stay healthy.
