What is the government's cross-Strait policy?

Ans:

(1) The government will conduct cross-Strait affairs in accordance with the Republic of China Constitution, the Act Governing Relations Between the People of Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, and other relevant legislation. The government is also committed to maintaining the status quo of peaceful and stable cross-Strait relations and establishing consistent, predictable and sustainable cross-Strait ties based on the existing realities and political foundation.

(2) The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) will strive to maintain the existing cross-Strait mechanisms, including the communication and liaison mechanism between the MAC and the TAO and institutionalized negotiation mechanisms. We will promote orderly cross-Strait exchanges and economic and trade cooperation, strengthen the legal basis for cross-Strait negotiations and exchanges, and protect the rights and interests of the people on both sides.

(3) In the promotion of cross-Strait policy, the government will listen to public opinion, make decisions transparently, abide by democratic principles and procedures, follow the latest public opinion and greatest consensus in Taiwan, and adhere to the principle of maintaining peace and sharing interests to create the long-term well-being of people in cross-Strait interactions.
