The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) deeply regrets that the Macao government had unilaterally decided and announced today (June 16) the temporary suspension of operations of the Macao Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan starting June 19, 2021.
The MECO was established in 2011 based on an exchange of letters between Taiwan and Macao regarding the subject of setting up respective representative offices. Since its establishment, Taiwan has made every effort to render assistance needed by upholding the principle of goodwill and reciprocity.
Considering the rights and welfare of the public, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Macao will continue being in operation. Our staff members will hold fast to their position to provide services to people from both Taiwan and Macao.
