The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated, in regard to Ms. Li Ching-yu's trip to Hunan, mainland China to visit Li Ming-che, that Ms. Li visited Mr. Li Ming-che at Chishan Prison on the morning of March 27 without mishap. The MAC believes that the Mainland's consent of family visits to Mr. Li Ming-che and provision of assistance and convenience to the family members during their stay in the Mainland have positive significance for cross-Strait interaction.
Ms. Li Ching-yu flew to mainland China on March 26. The government asked the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) to assign personnel to accompany Ms. Li throughout her itinerary. It also asked the Changsha Taiwan Businessmen Association to assist with transportation and accommodation arrangements and other matters in the Mainland. With the assistance of the relevant Mainland agencies and the Changsha Taiwan Businessmen Association, Ms. Li was able to smoothly enter the Mainland and visit Mr. Li Ming-che. Ms. Li and the accompanying SEF personnel safely returned to Taiwan on the afternoon of March 28. The government thanked the related personnel for their assistance provided in this process.
This case has received a high level of public attention. The MAC again called on the Mainland to guarantee the legal visitation rights of family members, to continue in the future to provide convenience and assistance for regular family visits with Mr. Li Ming-che, and to promptly release Mr. Li Ming-che and allow him to return safely to Taiwan.
