MAC Press Release No. 67

Chunghwa Post today (September 20, 2017) issued a set of special stamps commissioned by the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of cross-Strait exchanges. The stamps present the results and history of cross-Strait exchanges and convey the government's policy position of continuing to promote goodwill interaction and exchanges across the Taiwan Strait.

The MAC indicated that cross-Strait exchanges have entered the 30th year since the government began allowing family-related visits to Mainland China in 1987. To commemorate this important historic milestone, it commissioned Chunghwa Post to issue a set of special stamps and stamp folios of "30th Anniversary of Cross-Strait Exchanges." The stamp designs portray the results of cross-Strait exchanges and interaction over the past 30 years in direct postal, transportation, and trade links, family visits, travel, economy and trade, academia, culture, and sports, adding to the stamps' historical significance and collection value.

The MAC stated that the 30th anniversary of cross-Strait exchanges is a historic moment worth reviewing the past and looking to the future. The stamps issued today look back on the accumulated efforts and experiences gained in the process of past cross-Strait exchanges and interaction in various fields. From this perspective, they also look to the future in hope that the two sides can continue, on the past foundation, to advance exchanges and interaction in various areas, work to create a friendly and orderly environment for cross-Strait exchanges, jointly cherish the results from the past 30 years of interaction between the two sides, and work to promote normalized exchange and dialogue mechanisms to safeguard and advance the rights, interests, and well-being of the people on both sides and foster favorable conditions for the further development of cross-Strait relations.
