MAC Press Release No. 034

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated that Beijing and other parts of mainland China had been affected by several days of torrential rains brought by Typhoon Doksuri, resulting in widespread flood damage and unfortunate casualties. The Office of the President today (August 1, 2023) conveyed sympathies and concern on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen. Through this statement, the MAC expressed condolences and concerns for the victims in mainland China and hoped that those in flood-affected areas would swiftly recover and return to normal life.

The MAC indicated that, through the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), the government has also sent condolences to mainland China and expressed hopes for minimal losses. According to the information gathered so far, despite the damage suffered by a small number of Taiwanese-owned factories, no damages or casualties have been reported by most of the Taiwanese businesspeople and citizens in mainland China. Our government will continue to closely monitor the latest local news and actual situation with regard to the disaster and provide related information for the reference of the Taiwanese public in a timely manner. Taiwanese citizens in mainland China are advised to remain alert and stay safe. Those in need of assistance shall contact the SEF through its Emergency Service Hotline at 02-2533-9995.
