MAC Press Release No. 7

At a gathering with Taiwanese businesspeople, Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) Director Liu Jieyi restated "Xi's five points." In addition, Liu attempted to deceptively promote the "one country, two systems" formula by saying that “CCP will not implement mainland Chinese political system in Taiwan”, and which demonstrates Beijing’s “care and concern for Taiwan.” However, these are merely lies with ulterior motives to belittle Taiwan.

Today (January 18, 2019) the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) solemnly stated that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is a one-party dictatorship. It lacks the concepts of democracy and civilization, not to mention having no credit in governance and institutionalization. "One country, two systems" has long been a failed and wrong policy. It can never succeed. The Republic of China (ROC) is a sovereign state. Democracy and freedom are the core values in Taiwanese society and will be firmly defended by the people of Taiwan. We have long been clearly aware of the CCP's deceptive tricks. We will never accept "one country, two systems" and will not be part of the "two systems" formula.  In fact, the international community has already noticed Beijing's attempts and ambition to change the status quo of the Taiwan Strait.

The MAC stressed that the CCP's "one country, two systems" is centered upon authoritarian socialism. Mainland's political and social systems are deeply flawed and rigid, and that’s why it cannot attract the outside world, nor to integrate with democratic system. There is no country in the world that practices "one country, two systems." Mainland China’s authoritarian governance in Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet today only highlights the absurdity and insidiousness of Beijing's suppression and deception of Taiwan, and will ultimately prove futile. The MAC stressed that the ROC constitutional system has no space for "two systems." "One country, two systems" intends to suppress and wear off the sovereignty of the ROC and Taiwan's democratic system. Polls have long showed that more than 80% of the public in Taiwan reject this proposal and will not follow nor participate in such formula. All sectors of the Taiwanese society will never discuss nor endorse a "two systems "formula entailing the elimination of their own country; after all, it is like "asking a tiger for its hide."
