MAC Condemns the CCP for Persisting Aggressive Provocation and Lacking the Wisdom to Resolve Issues Peacefully

  • Date:2022-08-05

MAC Press Release No. 011

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) released the following statement today (August 5, 2022) in response to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) carrying out multiple sorties with its military aircraft and warships in the waters around Taiwan as part of its high-intensity military exercises. The MAC strongly protests against the CCP’s deliberate breaching of the median line of the Taiwan Strait to undermine cross-Strait and regional stability; meanwhile, the MAC urges the CCP once again to immediately cease its irrational, irresponsible, and malicious military provocation.

The MAC emphasized that we will never accept the CCP’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) using areas around Taiwan as a training ground for its military forces. The PLA’s aggressive saber-rattling against the lives and assets of people in Taiwan has sparked outrage and aversion in many countries of our region. If the CCP cannot resolve issues with peace and wisdom and instead chooses to cling to a wishful thinking that it could coerce us into a compromise by force, this will only exacerbate the spiral of hostility and intensify the animosity and antagonism between the two sides across the Taiwan Strait. Eventually, the CCP will achieve nothing and suffer from its own misjudgment. Our government remains prudent and cautious in our responses to the developments of the situation. We firmly uphold national sovereignty and democracy. We will never back down from our commitment to safeguarding our territory and security.
