Press Release of the Offshore Control Division of the Executive Yuan's SARS Prevention, Control and Relief Committee

Today (July 4), the Offshore Control Division announced that the government is currently looking into a possible resumption of landing visa services for Hong Kong residents coming to Taiwan.

Because of the large number of people visiting Taiwan from Hong Kong and the Mainland in normal ¡]pre-SARS¡^ time and due to the consideration that the movement of people during the "buffer period" may possibly bring about risks of renewed SARS transmission at a time when the epidemic is finally being contained, and in consideration of the adjustments being made to the comprehensive epidemic prevention and quarantine measures, the government is in the process of assessing whether or not the issuing of landing visas for HK residents will be resumed.

Yesterday (July 3), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that beginning today (July 4), the resume of normal conditions for the people of the 34 countries originally enjoying visa-free entry or landing visa rights to enter into Taiwan from Hong Kong or the Mainland.

The 34 countries are: (1) visa-free entry: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA; (2) landing visa rights: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland.
