Press Release of the Offshore Control Division of the Executive Yuan's SARS Prevention, Control and Relief Committee

Today (July 2), the WHO removed Toronto, Canada, from its list of "areas with recent local transmissions of SARS" (effective at 6:00 p.m., as announced at the Center for Disease Control website). Consequently, the Offshore Control Division declared that Taiwan also lifts all "Type B Home Quarantine Measures" for travelers from that area immediately.

After quarantine measures for travelers from Toronto have been lifted, restrictions on those who previously entered from Toronto and are currently under compulsory home quarantine, or being treated under the "Guidelines for Business Activities" (after their local company/business partner provided a letter of guarantee), will also be lifted from 18:00 p.m. today (July 2). The procedure is the same as the measures adopted for travelers from the Hong Kong area, i.e. restrictions are lifted automatically, and individuals concerned are not required to apply to the local health authority.

After Toronto's removal from the WHO's list, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will review related visa regulations (visa-free entries and landing visas in particular), and announce a decision at a later time.
