Regarding the issue of Mainland people visiting their relatives in Taiwan, the Ministry of the Interior has amended the Regulations Governing the Entry Permission to the Taiwan Area for the People from Mainland China to allow Mainlanders, with third degree consanguinity relatives that have household register establishment in the Taiwan Area, to apply for permission to visit relatives in the Taiwan Area. The relevant provisions are as follows:
(1) The Mainland parents of people with household register establishment in the Taiwan Area (including Mainland spouses with ID cards) are permitted to stay in Taiwan for one to three months for family-related visits. They may apply for an extension of up to three months per application, but the total stay in Taiwan may not exceed six months in a given year.
(2) Mainland siblings may stay in Taiwan for a maximum of three months for family-related visits. They may not apply for an extension and may only apply to visit Taiwan twice per year. Their total stay in Taiwan may not exceed six months in a given year.
