(1) According to the current Regulations for Permitting Mainland Area Publications, Motion Pictures, Video Programs, Radio Broadcasts, or Television Programs to be Imported to the Taiwan Area or Distributed, Sold, Produced, Broadcast, Displayed, Exhibited or Emulated in the Taiwan Area, movies, radio and TV programs from the Mainland Area may be released or broadcast in the Taiwan Area after they are reviewed and approved by the competent authority, the Ministry of Culture (MOC), and all Chinese characters have been converted to the traditional, non-simplified script.
(2)Furthermore, in accordance with the Regulations Governing the Number, Categories and Hours Mainland Area Movies and TV Programs may be Released, Shown or Broadcast in the Taiwan Area, there are currently ten categories of Mainland radio and TV programs that can be released or broadcast in Taiwan: (1) technology, (2) business management, (3) natural ecology, (4) geography and scenic sights, (5) culture and arts, (6) sports and athletics, (7) language teaching, (8) medicine and health, (9) variety shows, and (10) romance, family, humorous, historical, martial arts, suspense and action dramas. (Duplicated films must go through the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, Ministry of Culture and come under the restrictions cited above regarding approval procedures for showing Mainland Area films in the Taiwan Area).
(3) As for the number of Mainland films that may be shown in Taiwan, the limit is ten per year and priority is given to romance, family, humorous, historical, martial arts, suspense and action dramas. Moreover, in accordance with the Regulations Governing the Number, Categories and Hours Mainland Area Movies and TV Programs may be Released, Shown or Broadcast in the Taiwan Area, there is a proportional restriction for Mainland movies, radio and TV programs that may be shown over cable and broadcast television in order to protect locally produced programs.
