Press Release of the Offshore Control Division of the Executive Yuan's SARS Epidemic Management Committee

In the morning of May 4, the Mainland transit ship Gu Lang Yu carried Taiwanese passengers from Xiamen to Kinmen on the ¡§Mini-Three-Links mini-links¡¨ route. Because of unfavorable weather, the onward flight to Taiwan was cancelled, preventing the passengers from returning to Taiwan immediately. As part of its SARS prevention efforts, the government handled the matter in accordance with compulsory quarantine procedures and explained the situation in the following way:

1. In a concerted action in dealing with issues of the aforementioned 39 Taiwanese passengers, officials from all relevant central and local government departments, including the Kinmen County Bureau of Public Health, Bureau of Business Management and Tourism Bureau, the Kinmen Harbor Bureau, and the Mainland Affairs Council's Kinmen Administrative Coordination Center, were all on the spot to positively manage the situation. Adequate arrangements have already been made.

2. During their travel delay, the 39 passengers are accommodated in a local building. On the next day, the Kinmen County Bureau of Public Health will once more make a body temperature check for them. After their departure, the building will be sterilized in strict accordance with compulsory quarantine and other relevant regulations.

3. Central and local government departments will continue to monitor the situation, and provide all necessary assistance.
