Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Wang Yu-chi today (February 12, 2014) led the MAC delegation to Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing to pay homage and honor the memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. During the service, Minister Wang reported the government's substantive realization of Dr. Sun's ideals and principles in Taiwan. He also spoke on the future prospects for peaceful and stable development in cross-strait relations.
The MAC delegation led by Minister Wang arrived this morning at the Bo'ai Square of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and ascended the steps to the Sacrificial Hall to pay homage. As officiant of the memorial service, Minister Wang laid a wreath at the statue of Dr. Sun, and the master of ceremonies then read the memorial oration. The oration described Dr. Sun's great achievements as leader of the revolution and founding father of the Republic of China, as well as reported on the concrete realization in Taiwan of the Three Principles of the People, Five-Power Constitution and other ideals and principles of Dr. Sun. The oration also expounded on the recent significant improvement and developments in cross-strait relations achieved on the basis of the "1992 Consensus," and expressed hope that the two sides may jointly carry forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's ideals and contribute to world harmony. The delegation members then bowed three times in memory to the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and entered the tomb chamber to pay respects.
After the memorial service, Minister Wang presented a brief speech at Bo'ai Square. He pointed out that the first democratic republic in Asia—the Republic of China—was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen 103 years ago, and that he was very happy and moved to be able to pay homage to Dr. Sun Yat-sen in person today in his capacity as Minister of the MAC.
Minister Wang emphasized that, since 2008, peaceful and stable development of cross-strait relations has been achieved through institutionalized negotiations and cross-strait exchanges and cooperation based on the "1992 Consensus." In the future, it is crucial that the two sides must face up to the reality across the Strait and pragmatically deal with and resolve issues in order to build lasting and solid cross-strait relations, enhance the welfare of the people, and turn the Taiwan Strait into a sea of peace and cooperation.
