In response to the meeting yesterday (June 13) between Honorary Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Chinese Communist Party, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) states today that, the Republic of China (ROC) is a sovereign and independent country. As stipulated in the ROC Constitution and the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, the relationship across the Strait is defined as "one Republic of China, two areas". The ROC government has never changed its position on cross-strait relations; therefore whether it be the "one China principle", "one China framework", or "one China concept", the "one China" is the Republic of China.
