Press Release of the Offshore Control Division of the Executive Yuan's SARS Epidemic Prevention, Control and Relief Committee

The Offshore Control Division declared that that starting June 14 (Sat), quarantined subjects planning to leave the country will no longer be required to possess their home quarantine notice at customs. Still all those entering Taiwan meeting the conditions for home quarantine will still be served a notice, and are required to report to their local health authority and comply with all quarantine regulations. Those who need to leave the country again before the 10 days of quarantine are up must undergo a temperature/symptoms check at the local health station, a DOH or a municipal hospital. Only those who are without SARS symptoms will be allowed to leave the country. According to Articles of 8 and 18 of the "Interim Regulations of SARS Control," those who act in violation of this rule can be issued a fine of at least NT$ 60,000, and not exceeding NT$ 300,000.

Since the Offshore Control Division was established in late April and in order to strengthen SARS prevention measures, "Type B Home Quarantine Notices" have been issued to every traveler returning/coming to Taiwan from a SARS transmission area. Quarantined subjects are then required to report within 24 hours to their local health authority, village/borough warden or supervisor designated by their employer. This procedure remains in place, the only requirement that has been lifted as of today is the obligation to submit one's home quarantine notice at customs when leaving the country.

Considering that as many as 98% of all quarantined subjects do voluntarily report to the authorities, the Offshore Control Division has, in the consideration of speedier customs procedures and the saving of administrative cost, decided to scrap type B quarantine border checks, meaning that starting today home quarantined subjects only need to report to the local authorities on time, and follow all prescribed regulations during the quarantine period. They do not need to carry their quarantine notices when leaving the country before the ten days of quarantine are up if they have gained permission from the health authorities to exit Taiwan.
