College and university students are welcome to actively participate in the competition for the 2008 Awards for Cross-Strait Cinematic Exchanges

To encourage young students to show their vitality and creativity through the production of digital short films and at the same time to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's policy toward mainland China and cross-strait relations, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), following the successful holding of the 2007 Awards for Cross-Strait Cinematic Exchanges, has commissioned the Communications Management Association of Taiwan (CMAT) to organize the 2008 Awards for Cross-Strait Cinematic Exchanges. The CMAT began accepting entry submissions on May 1 (Thursday), and all university students are welcome to actively participate in the competition.

The organizing agency MAC indicated that the development and progress of cross-strait relations are intricately related to every aspect in the daily lives of the people on both sides of the Strait. Matters related to cross-strait relations abound around us everywhere; in producing a digital short film related to the topic of "cross-strait relations," participants can look around them to come up with the appropriate themes. The entries can be in the form of KUSO-type short dramas, which are popular nowadays, or animations depicting the development of cross-strait relations or the direction of future policies. Participants can also create works from the viewpoint of the MAC and try to produce short films that may be used by the MAC in its policy dissemination efforts.

In keeping pace with the purpose and spirit of the 2007 Awards, the total amount of the prizes for this year’s Awards is NT$ 200,000. Due to requests from various sectors of society, there is a five-month-long period during which entry submissions can be sent. We welcome those interested in participating in the Awards competition to seize the time. The co-organizer has started accepting entries as of today and the deadline for entry submissions is October 10, 2008. College students all over the country are welcome to actively participate in the competition and display their creativity. More details on the competition and the application form can be found on the MAC’s website: http://www.mac.gov.tw or at http://mol.cm.mcu.edu.tw/image.
