“Peaceful unification” and the “one country, two systems” are the basic guidelines of mainland China’s Taiwan policy. The various public opinion surveys conducted in 2008 showed that eighty percent of the Taiwan people oppose applying the “one country, two systems” formula to Taiwan. The Mainland side must attach importance to such an objective fact.

We believe that Taiwan-centric identity will disappear under mainland China’s so-called “one country, two systems” formula. Moreover, the Republic of China will also be downgraded into a local government, which is unacceptable to Taiwan.
