MAC Emergency Services SMS

In order to provide timely assistance to Taiwanese people encountering personal safety and emergency situations in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) entrusted telecom carriers to send mobile phone SMS notifications of the government's 24-hour emergency service hotlines. Effective since December 1, 2014, the service automatically sends an SMS reading, "The MAC cares about you! Emergency service hotlines: Hong Kong +85261439012; Macao +85366872557; In mainland China, call the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) at +886225339995 (fees apply)." Taiwanese people with international roaming services enabled on their phones shall receive the above message the first time they turn on their phones when visiting the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The MAC reminds the public to only call the hotline in time of emergencies to ensure that the service is available to provide timely assistance to those in urgent needs. The SMS service is paid for by the MAC and provided to the people of Taiwan free of cost. However, international roaming fees will apply and be charged to caller when calling the Straits Exchange Foundation 24-hour hotline from the mainland  or the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office's 24-hour hotline in Hong Kong and Macao.
