The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) congratulated Ms. Carrie Lam upon her election today as the fifth Chief Executive of Hong Kong. The MAC expressed hope that, in the future, Taiwan and Hong Kong can continue to uphold an attitude of mutual benefit and pragmatically upgrade substantive relations between them.
The MAC stated that the government of the Republic of China has always attached great importance to exchanges with Hong Kong. The two sides have joint responsibility to protect the rights, interests, and welfare of the people on both sides and to maintain and promote positive interaction between Taiwan and Hong Kong. The MAC earnestly hopes that the new Chief Executive can strengthen the functions and operation of liaison and coordination mechanisms between the two sides on the existing foundation, as well as actively and pragmatically promote exchanges and cooperation at all levels, and jointly advance the positive development of substantive relations between Taiwan and Hong Kong.
