MAC Minister Chang Attends Joint Public Memorial for Accident Victims from Liaoning

Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Minister Katharine Chang attended a public memorial service at 1:00 this afternoon (July 25, 2016) in Zhongli to mourn the victims of the July 19 tour coach accident involving a tour group from Liaoning Province. She was joined by approximately 10 colleagues from the MAC, including Secretary-General Lee Li-Jane at the service, held at the Yudian Memorial Hall of the Zhongli Funeral Parlour.

Minister Chang expressed a deep mourning and sadness to the victims and offered her sincere sympathy and condolences to the victims' families. She said that the government would do its utmost to identify the cause of the incident. Relevant departments will jointly review cross-Strait tourism safety and strengthen related actions, improve the tour coach management and tourism environment in Taiwan, and rebuild the confidence of the Mainland public in Taiwan travel so that cross-Strait tourism exchanges could be conducive to positive interaction and the development of peace between the two sides.
