(Revisions discussed and approved by the Executive Yuan and submitted to the Legislative Yuan for deliberation on December 11, 2008)

In order to further protect the fundamental rights of the Mainland spouses living in Taiwan, the government will expand the working rights of Mainland spouses in the following ways:

(1) Mainland spouses that enter Taiwan legally and pass the interview process will be able to work in Taiwan.

(2) The period required for Mainland spouses to obtain an ROC ID card will be reduced to six years from the current eight years.

(3) The review meeting convened prior to the exit of Mainland spouses shall give the involved parties an opportunity to declare their views so as to protect their rights and interests.

(4) Rules limiting the maximum amount of inheritance to NT$2 million for Mainland spouses will be removed and restrictions will be eased on inheritance of real estate by Mainland spouses that are long-term residents of Taiwan.

Benefits: These measures will protect the rights and interests of Mainland spouses, encourage the healthy treatment of Mainland spouses by the general public, and gradually eliminate discrimination in society.
