Extending the maximum period of stay in Taiwan for Mainland students to one year

(Revisions promulgated by the Ministry of Education on October 24, 2008)

Starting from October 24, 2008, the allowable period of stay in Taiwan for Mainland students has been increased from four months originally to one year. A quota of 1,000 Mainland students per academic year was also adopted.

Benefits: This measure will promote benign interaction between young people and students of the two sides, as well as enhance Mainland students' understanding of democracy and freedom in Taiwan.
