(Implemented on June 30, 2008)
Starting from June 30, 2008, the government has not only allowed the Xinhua News Agency and the People's Daily to resume the stationing of their reporters
in Taiwan for news coverage, but it has also allowed five local media agencies in
mainland China to station reporters in Taiwan. The government has also extended
the period that Mainland reporters may stay in Taiwan to three months, up from one
month originally. If needed for reporting purposes, Mainland correspondents may
apply for one extension of stay up to three months. Procedures for Mainland reporters
visiting Taiwan have also been streamlined.
Benefits: These measures will promote the cross-strait flow of
information and freedom of the press in the Mainland, as well as increase understanding
about Taiwan among the Mainland people.
